THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF RESIDING IN AN ALIEN SOIL, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

26

HOMILY OF MONDAY IN THE 14TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Exodus 1:8-14,22, Matthew 10:34-11:1

THEME: THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF RESIDING IN AN ALIEN SOIL

Regardless of our outward beauty, it is imperative that we refrain from continuously dwelling in borrowed attire. The moment the true owner realizes that the garment suits us more than himself, we may face ridicule and scorn.

We see in the first reading of today, how the Israelites were so comfortable in Egypt that they never thought of relocating back home, until they were subjected to slavery. While it is commendable to seek better opportunities elsewhere, it is essential to remember that home holds a special place in our hearts. God has a purpose for grounding us in our native land, and there is wisdom in his decision.

We are better off outside our home if we are valuable. Before one leaves home, one should have something to offer. Charity begins at home.  If our status puts us at the mercy of our host, we must be ready for any kind of maltreatment.

May the Lord establish us that we may not fall prey to any form undue treatment.
