THE PATH TO THE NEXT LEVEL, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

31

HOMILY OF MONDAY IN THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Exodus 14:5-1, Matthew 12:38-42

THEME: THE PATH TO THE NEXT LEVEL

At times, God allows or uses some trying moments to shape us into models fit for his worship. When we are comfortable in our desert of sins; when we become slaves to our passions, he creates occasions around us to build us.  Though our path to the next level may be rough, God’s purpose for our lives should be our priority.

In today’s first reading, “the Lord made Pharaoh, king of Egypt, stubborn, and he gave chase to the sons of Israel as they made their triumphant escape.” They took to complaining, preferring to return to Egypt, but to manifest his glory and to confound the evil intent of Pharaoh the Lord took them through the red sea dry shod.

The act of avoiding life’s challenges represents an unconscious desire to regress in our life’s journey. We can face our challenges headlong. God has plans for us, no matter the obstacles on our way.

May God sharpen our vision, that we may know what his plan holds for us. Amen.
