THE JOY OF THE LORD

132

FRIDAY OF THE SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER

THEME: THE JOY OF THE LORD

Acts 18:9-18, Psalms 47-2-3..4-5.6-7, Accl Luke 24:46,26, Gospel John 16:20-23a

Our knowledge of God’s assuring words is the only thing that carries us along the paths of life.

The Lord said the disciples, “so you have sorrow now, but I will see again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. In that day you will ask nothing of me.”  John 16:22-23.  It is not what we face in life that matter. What matters is our response. Our ability to respond positively comes from the strength of the Lord. That is what makes us responsible [response able].  And we cannot be stronger beyond the content of the word of God in us.  Christian joy knows no bound. And nothing can separate us from God’s love. Since our joy is not derived from material things, it will surely last. Man will fail us, but knowing God is the root of true happiness. Since our joy comes from the strength of his power, it cannot fail us because he is a faithful God.

The Lord told his disciples that when that day of joy comes they will ask nothing of him. At times, we raised a lot of questions when we are faced with problems and challenges. We often ask whether God still exists or not. But when he pours his spirit into our hearts, we shall truly acknowledge him as Abba, Father.

“For those who are led by the spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, Abba Father!” Romans 8:14-15.

Moreover, it is soothing to know that God is our Father and that he has answers to all our problems. Knowing that he cannot leave us alone, we will be firm in faith and we dare not question him when we face tribulations, for his love is everlasting. Though Christian joy has no season, our joy shall be complete the day we shall see him face to face, when all our quest shall cease and there would be no need for questioning.

More so, the Lord said to Paul, “Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man shall attack you to harm you; I have many people in this city.” Acts 18:9-10. As long as we truly represent God, he will always raise up those who will stand for us in our moment of trials. Nothing should stop us from proclaiming the gospel. We should not refrain from speaking the truth even it affects our benefactors or best of friends. As long as the message we are passing comes from God’s directive, he takes care of the situation. He protects us. “The king’s heart is channeled water in the hand of the Lord; God directs it where he pleases.” [Prov 21:1] For “God is the King of all the earth.” [Psalm 47:8a]

Let us be rest assured of God’s protective care. Let us be certain of his provisions. Let us wait on him in all situations. He is there for us and he will never leave us to rot away.

Peace with you.

PRAYER

O Lord, my God, as I journey on my way today, give me the strength that comes from your presence. Help me to stand for your truth in all situations. Remember your promise that you will always protect me. Raise men and women who will favour me. Make a blessing to others. Keep me joyful in all my ways In Jesus name. Amen.
