THEME: SIMPLICITY AND TRUST: RECIPES FOR SUCCESSFUL  MISSION

We are sustained not so much because of the prior preparation we make, but by been true to our identity and by undiluted dedication to our duty. The best of preparation we make can be shattered by a moment of distraction.

In today’s gospel, Jesus instructed his disciples, “Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; and let none of you take a spare tunic

Jesus charged his disciples to be simple and not to think so much about their sustainability. He who called them knows how to provide for them. He knows that those who work will surely get their means of survival.

The Lord gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.

However, it is easy to lose focus of our Christian calling if we always seek for convenience. Though it is good to be fit for the work of God, when we give too much attention to comfortability, we may lose sense of the core of our work and begin to rant over unrelated issues.

Like St Vincent De Paul, let us give our undivided attention to serving God in others.

May the grace of service be poured upon us afresh. Amen.
