HOMILY, THURSDAY, 12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
2Kings 24:8-17, Matthew 7:21-29.
Our journey becomes successful when we start from the beginning. The journey to heaven is built on a life well-lived in Christ Jesus.
Those who despise the manifestation of the Holy Spirit’s gifts and call it Pentecostalism are missing out parts of their divine packages. On the other hand, those who neglect the paths to holiness and call it orthodoxy cannot last in their gifting.
A house that is not built on solid foundation will surely fall. Gifts that are not maintained by saintly life destroy more than build. There is no point manifesting gifts while our life is nothing to write home about. Some believe more in their gifting and give less attention to how they live their lives.
The Lord said,
“On that day, many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? And then will I declare to them, I never knew you, depart from me, you evil doers.
Anyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and rain fell, and the floods came and the wind blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on the rock”
It is better to live a holy life and go to heaven than performing miracles in Jesus name and loose our souls.
A mature Christian who wants to live his life to the fullest will merge the two. He will live a virtuous life and at the same time, work in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Whatever we do should be built on the foundation of the word of God. Let us do all within our capacity to grasp all the full aspects of God’s grace available at our disposal. Let us do what we say so that God can impart his life through us to others.
PRAYER
Lord, help that I may enjoy the full beauty of your presence. Enable me by your Spirit to lead the life of heaven. May your word have a place in my life. Deprive me not your gifts. Thy kingdom come.
