HOMILY, MONDAY, 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A
Micah 6:1-4.6-8, Matthew 12: 38:42.
THEME: DEVELOPING THE ABILITY TO SEE BEYOND SIGNS.
It was in the nature of the Jews to ask for signs from whoever claims to be God’s representative. To be sure that one comes from God; one has to do something extra ordinary or sensational. They forget that God is ever present in the everyday happenings around us.
Many, in search for signs have put themselves into bondage to Satan. For their lack of faith, they left God and began to search for gods that cannot save them. They look for gods that give fast answers to their hasty questions. Hence, the Lord called them evil and adulterous generation. Adulterous, because they left God and give their loyalty to things that do not matter.
The people of Nineveh believed that Jonah came from God and they believed in his message. They covered themselves with ashes and repented from their sins. Likewise, the Queen of Sheba travelled a long distance to listen to the Wisdom of Solomon. Here, stand before the Jews, the Lord himself, and they could not recognise him for their lack of faith.
Unfortunately, for lack of understanding and discernment, many have missed their seasons of divine visitation. They strive after trivial matters and forfeit the things that really matter.
Let us pray that in the search for the extra ordinary, we shall not enter into bondage and soak our hands into evil.
PRAYER
O Lord, I love you. May I truly love you. Sharpen my insight that I may recognize you in my moments of divine visitation. Thy kingdom come.
