A MEETING PLACE WITH GOD, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

HOMILY OF SUNDAY IN THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Wisdom 12:13,16-19, Romans 8:26-27, Matthew 13:24-43

THEME: OUR HEART: A MEETING PLACE WITH GOD

In our journey as people of faith, maintaining our spiritual core shields us from any external forces that seek to penetrate our essence. When we remain grounded in our spiritual center, we develop a resilience that protects us from the challenges and pressures of the world. It becomes a source of inner strength, allowing us to move through life with steadfastness and preserve our true identity amidst any storms that may arise.

Hence, if we consciously and continuously surrender our heart to God, he understands our soul script and can interpret even the desires we cannot express. Paul said in the second reading, “The Spirit comes to help us in our weakness. For when we cannot choose words in order to pray properly, the Spirit himself expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words, and God who knows everything in our hearts knows perfectly well what he means, and that the pleas of the saints expressed by the Spirit are according to the mind of God.”

However, to be on the same page with God, we must know how to distinguish human fads from Godly ethos. The parable of the darnel seed in the gospel, simply tells us that evil corrupts. The devil has a salient way of injecting thoughts into people’s hearts. Unknown to us, if we do not take care, we may be consumed by his ideals.

Moreover, just the way evil grows to the level of corrupting human nature, the kingdom of God like the mustard seed grows with our cumulative pools of sacrifice and God’s grace into an eternal home, where everyone finds an abode. In God’s kingdom, no effort is too small. He supplies whatever is lacking in us.

Above all, we must not take anything for granted, especially whatever that has anything to do with our souls and hearts. The best of communication with God happens in our heart. We ought to develop a prayer for presence through which we lay our hearts bare to God in every moment of our days. This helps us to maintain the unity of our spiritual impulse.

May the seed of glory which the Lord has sown in us flower. Amen.
