1 Thessalonians 4:9-11, Matthew 25:14-30

THEME: A SIMPLE CURE FOR ENVY

The simple cure for envy is the realization that each one is unique and that there is no need for comparison. Our varying gifts have ways of complementing one another.

In today’s gospel, Jesus relates the parable of the talents. The man who planned to travel abroad shared his property among his servants according to their ability. The one who received little went and buried it and refused to trade with it, because he was dissatisfied with his master, while the others who received more went and traded with theirs and gain more profits.

If our ability is not the same, then our output cannot be the same. We shall be judged by how we use our ability and not necessarily by the result. God grants the increase. We must not begrudge him.

However, when we compare ourselves with others, we may suffer from over confidence or low self-esteem. No gift is too little to develop. Our passion and dedication are what determines our results.

We pray that we may accept ourselves and utilize whatever gift the Lord has given to us. Amen.
