HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE 8TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Ecclesiasticus 44:1,9-13, Mark 11:11-26
THEME: ALL CALLED TO GIVE BIRTH
It is an agony of the highest order living or working with unproductive people. Life is too short to toy with. To be alive, we must give birth. Everyone is expected to give birth. Each is called to produce something. You can bear a child. Or have something which is your own brainchild. You never lived where you are not remembered. But you continue to exist wherever your stamp is engraved. You can’t just pass. Don’t just expect. Give, give something of you. Make yourselves valuable.
In the gospel, Jesus cursed the unproductive fig.
And the first reading reads,
“Let us praise illustrious men, our ancestors in their successive generations. Some have left no memory, and disappeared as though they had not existed, they are now as though they had never been, and so too, their children after them. But here is a list of generous men whose good works have not been forgotten. In their descendants there remains a rich inheritance born of them.”
We can be valuable by making use of our space to be productive. May God increase us as we work daily to contribute to the growth of our society. Amen.
