HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THIRD WEEK IN THE ORDINARY TIME YEAR A,
BY REV FR EKESHIRI JUDE EMEKA CSSP.
(2 Samuel 7:18-19,24-29, Psalm 131:1-5,11-14, Mark 4:21-25).

Light is a very important thing in the life of every human person. Light gives us a better viewing opportunity to see what is ahead of us. Without light we will be blind to the danger that lies ahead of us. Being a light to the world is an important task every Christian must be involved with.

Therefore, in our Gospel reading of today, Jesus uses light as an analogy to exhorts us to shine like a lamp put on a lampstand. In our homes, the lamps were to be placed on higher places where they could give light to the entire place. They were not hidden under a vessel or a bed (Mark 4:21-25).

This tells us about the active role each of us must play in sharing our faith and living out our Christian values and commitments publicly.

We cannot hide and shy away from the duties God has placed in our charge to go and be light in the lives of our brothers and sisters.

The parable of today also calls us to living out an authentic life characterised by transparency, accountability and integrity that does not compromise the Gospel values. It is important to remember that a hidden light is ultimately ineffective.

The problem is, how can we make an impact as Christian disciples in our world today? Our light must shine everywhere for everyone, so that, they too will be saved from the destruction of this world. Peace be with you.
