Accl:- Luke 4:18
Gospel:- Luke 4:14-22a
Outside our regular responsibilities under constituted authorities, to pay allegiance to someone is to submit our life to him or her. However, we cannot entrust our life to whom we do not believe in. We believe only in who has truly won our love.
Moreover, when we truly love someone, we can risk our life obeying his instructions, because we have that conviction that he cannot deceive us. If despite our shortcomings God still loves us, we too are meant to demonstrate our love for him by loving others despite all their flaws.
John, in his first letter said, “Beloved: we love God, because he first loved us. If anyone says,’ I love God’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.” 1John 4:19-20.
In our today’s gospel, the Lord Jesus announces how was to demonstrate his love for humanity. He has come to proclaim release to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
Taking a leave from the Lord, we are called to place our lives at the service of others. If he has taken the lead, we too must follow suit.
May the love of God be perfected in us through Christ our Lord.
