HOMILY OF TUESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER.

Acts 4:32-37, John 3:7-15

THEME:  COMMUNAL LIFE AND A CALL TO RESPONSIBILITY.

Our life cannot be completely meaningful if we refuse to share the fruits of our labours with others. There are some people who put in   more efforts than we do but cannot reap half of what we get. There are many reasons why the most endowed persons might be unfortunate. Therefore, let’s thank God for grace.

On the other hand, it amounts to sheer parasitism, that is, living off solely on the efforts of other people if we wait only to live on the generosity of others without trying to offer something. Communal life is all about a life of sharing and not mere dependency. We all have something to share.

We read in our first reading today,

The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed for his own use anything that he had, as everything they owned was held in common.”

All we have is given to us by the Lord. Receiving without giving is exploitation. We can be more responsible by ensuring that we have something to offer to others as well. No offer is insignificant if it is made in the spirit of love.

May the Spirit of God continue to ignite generosity in us. Amen.
