DIVINE ARREST: THE CONVERSION OF ST PAUL

47

HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER YEAR B

Acts 9:1-20, John 6:52-59

THEME: DIVINE ARREST: THE CONVERSION OF ST PAUL

God orders all things graciously. God is always aware of what his children are passing through. He brings the enemies of the way to book at his proper time.

The arrest of Paul was divine. However, his conversion can indict many Christians who, in the bid to fight for God, have destroyed potentials tools of evangelisation. No one would easily expect the conversion of St Paul, yet God picked him for his work.

No one can fight for God. Those who fight in God’s name are ignorant. And any god who needs man to fight for him is not worthy of the name. Those who kill in the name of religion are adherents of man-made god.

Moreover, Paul has been a fighter of religion until Jesus arrested him for his work. He was a man of strong conviction. He was a lettered man in the Jewish laws. And his strong will became the root of his success in the ministry.

Truly, we can be gifted and well endowed, but misdirect our resources to the wrong cause.  Let us pray that all our gifts will always be at the service of God.

May our knowledge not be spent on the altar of wrong conviction, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
