HOMILY OF SATURDAY OF THE 12TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Genesis 18:1-15, Matthew 8:5-17
THEME: ENTERTAINING GOD
It is an established fact that God has a covenant with us, nevertheless, there are still some acts or gestures we need to exhibit before we can actualize his purpose in our lives. If we don’t make ourselves worthy of his blessings, then, our time of waiting will be prolonged or may not come. We need the right attitude to reap his blessings. The possession of enduring character, capable of upholding God’s blessings, surpasses the efficacy of prayer or patient waiting alone. No disappointment in life should rid us of our God-given values. Walking with God entails working for him, even when it seems the conditions are not favourable.
Interestingly, God’s promise to Abram was given a definite expression the day he entertained God in his home. After giving God a welcoming reception under his roof, the Lord told him, “I shall visit you again next year without failing, and your wife will then have a son.”
Our lives should be dedicated to serving God in and out of season, “And going into Peter’s house Jesus found Peter’s mother-in-law in bed with fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.” Peter’s mother-in-law knew what it meant to be alive, to serve the Lord. That is the root of authentic blessing.
May our attitudes never hinder the blessings bestowed upon us. Amen.
