HOMILY OF TUESDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF ADVENT YEAR (B)
R1:- 1 Samuel 1:24-28
PS:- 1Samuel 2:1.4-5.6-7.8
Accl:- Come, O king of the nation’s and cornerstone of the Church! Come and save man, whom you formed from the clay of the earth.
Gospel:- Luke 1:46-56
Hannah prayed to God seeking a child and she made a promise to him that she will dedicate the child to him if her request is granted. God definitely granted her request and she did not forget to fulfil her promise. She brought the child to Eli and performed the necessary sacrifice required. She brought the child to Eli and said,
“Oh my Lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed; and the Lord has granted me my petition which I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he is lent to the Lord.” 1Samuel 1:24-28.
This woman set a good example of a promise kept. In like manner, Mary offered God a sacrifice of praise, singing the magnificat.
When we commit ourselves by a vow or promise, we should strive to fulfil them. God will never fail in his own part. He is ever faithful.
May the Lord grant the good desires of our hearts. May he listen to the words of our supplication that we may offer him worthy praise. Amen.
