GODLY HERITAGE

106

HOMILY OF TUESDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B

MEMORIAL [SS TIMOTHY AND TITUS]

[Today we honour two close collaborator of Saint Paul. It is good to see that Paul did not carry out his ministry alone. Rather hen surrounded himself with several co-operators, both men and women. Timothy and Titus are among the most outstanding of these collaborators. They accompanied Paul in some of his missionary journeys, preached the gospel with him and helped in the establishment and strengthening of several new Christian communities] Daily Missal.

2Tim 1:1-8, Luke 10:1-9

THEME: GODLY HERITAGE

It is a common saying that charity begins at home. Our foundation or our root helps to shape or contour our life direction. When we are built in good character, we can easily flow with the gift of God in us. Though the spirit of God can form us into God’s perfect image, it cannot be possible without our conscious cooperation.

Timothy was a product of a Godly upbringing. The impartation which he received from Paul only built upon the training he received from his mother and grandmother. Put in Paul’s own words, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you. For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands.”

Therefore, it is an onus on us to pick the good values in our family lines. Such values are not just there for nothing. Those are ingredients put in place to prepare the members of the family for whatever covenant God has sealed with them. Timothy inherited the gift of faith and it later translated into a great commission. Though in his young age, the wisdom of God was enough for him. His courage cannot be measured by his age.

Likewise, when we submit ourselves to God and we recognise his place in our lives, we have nothing to fear, for “God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self control.” Submission to God makes us beckons of love, having been built through conscious self-discipline; we are made responsible to boldly witness to God in thick and thin.

May we share in the fate of those endowed with Godly heritage. Just as Timothy and Titus were good companions of Paul in his missionary journey, may our lives continuously be dedicated to God’s service. Amen.

compatibility problems. Whenever I take a look at your web site in Safari,
it looks fine but when opening in IE, it has some overlapping
issues. I just wanted to provide you with a quick
heads up! Besides that, wonderful website!

  • I was wondering if you ever considered changing
the layout of your site? Its very well written; I love what
youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?
