GOD’S HANDS UPON US, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

50

HOMILY OF THURSDAY IN THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Exodus 19:1-2,9-11,16-20, Matthew 13:10-17

THEME: GOD’S HANDS UPON US

God, being aware of humanity’s inherent mistrust towards one another, often opts to reveal his power through his chosen servants to foster trust and gain the affection of his people.

In our today’s’ first reading, the Lord said to Moses, “I am coming to you in a dense cloud so that the people may hear when I speak to you and may trust you always.”

The demonstration of God’s power through us serves as a catalyst to enhance our ability to bear witness to Him. Our lives must radiate his love. We are expected to bear fruits that demonstrate his presence.

However, we live in a world where many feign God’s power or acquire magical powers to prove their link with the divine. It takes keen awareness to know those who are real representatives of God.

Unfortunately, at times, when we feel helpless or when we have stiffened the working of God’s power in our lives, we tend to rationalise the gospel and present it in manner acceptable to the people to maintain our relevance. We cannot touch the lives of others without the testimonies of God’s presence.

May the Lord’s hands always be upon us, that we may bear him effective witness. Amen.
