GOD’S LOVE AND ETERNAL DEMANDS, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

HOMILY OF SUNDAY OF THE 28TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Isaiah 25:6-10, Philippians 4:12-14,19-20, Matthew 22:1-14

THEME: GOD’S LOVE AND ETERNAL DEMANDS

In today’s gospel, Jesus confronts the chief priests and the elders with the profound spiritual truths about the kingdom of heaven. He presents a king symbolizes God, and a wedding feast which represents a divine invitation to share in the blessings of the Kingdom. Initially, those invited, who represent the religious leaders and people of Israel, reject the invitation. The king’s response signifies divine judgment on those who reject God’s call.

However, the king made a second invitation, which extended to all, a clear indication of God’s inclusive nature, welcoming both the righteous and the sinners. Moreover, the Lord presented the man without the wedding garment which shows that mere acceptance of salvation is not enough; a genuine transformation is necessary to partake fully in God’s Kingdom. It is not about membership; we must fully embody the gospel in our lives. Christianity is not a game of number, but the testimony of life lived according to the rules of God.

Above all, God’s love is for all, but only those who make themselves worthy of his promises would enter his kingdom. The kingdom is for only those who truly prepared themselves and are ready to demonstrate the fruits of redemption.

We pray that we have the heart to accept God’s love all our days. May our participation in God’s house meet his eternal demands. Amen.
