HOMILY OF FRIDAY IN THE 22ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Micah 5:1-4, Matthew 1:1-16,18-23
THEME: GOD’S UNFAILING PROMISE: WHEN GRACE SPEAKS
Our feat in life is not going to be measured by our place of birth or our family line, but by God’s own merciful design. He is the one who raises the lowly, and brings down the proud.
The Lord says this:
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, the least of the clans of Judah, out of you will be born for me, the one who is to rule over Israel;”
The genealogy of the Lord shows how God can write straight on a crooked line. Though the Saviour would come from the line of David, a genealogy which was replete with only women of questionable character, God needed a woman as an ark for the birth of the Saviour. At his own choicest time, he sent his Son through the blessed virgin Mary.
Mary’s conception came through an act of God’s grace. “Hail Mary full of grace” Though a virgin, immaculately conceived, God’s grace was poured upon her.
If God is to judge us by our root, we may not merit his blessings.
More so, our success is not a function of our power or might, but by the spirit of the Lord. When his appointed time comes, he brings into fruition in our life whatever he has planned for us. All we need to do is to be resolute in expectations and be fervent in our dedication to his ways.
May we always be made worthy of God’s promises. Amen.
