As a Catholic, you may sometimes find it difficult to practise your faith in our fast-paced, modern world. Perhaps you feel that the Bible’s teachings don’t align with modern-day values, or that the people around you just don’t understand your belief.
Well, the good news is that the core principles of Christianity – to love God and others – can still be practiced now, and always. You can also call upon many of God’s teachings and parables in the Bible to help guide you through the temptations of modern-day society.
1. PRAY TO GOD
Regardless of what’s going on in the outside world, you are always free to pray to God, and this is a vital part of living a Christian life. Focusing on your relationship with God and connecting with him will help you when faced with ungodliness in the world. As well as worshipping our Father, you can also pray for yourself to find the strength to resist temptation, and ask God to forgive your sins.
2. STUDY THE BIBLE
Read the Bible as often as you can, and absorb the lessons from the word of God.
3.LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR
One of Jesus’s commandments was to ‘love your neighbour as yourself’. This is one of the most important Christian teachings, and there are many ways in which you can practise it in a secular world.
4.FORGIVE OTHERS
It may be easier said than done, but try to follow the Christian teachings of forgiveness and reconciliation when someone has wronged you. Forgiving others is symbolic of your submission to Christ, as he sacrificed himself for our sins.
5.ENGAGE IN CHARITY WORK
charity work is a great way to serve others, and practice the Christian beliefs in the community. This could involve anything from helping those who are in need.
6.SHARE YOUR FAITH
Jesus teaches us to share our faith, and to set an example to the people in our lives by doing good deeds and being true Catholics . In an appropriate situation, you could strike up a conversation with a non-catholics about your faith, and see if they are interested in learning more.
7. PRACTICE TOLERANCE AND ACCEPTANCE
Whilst you have accepted Christ and live for God, many in the secular world do not, or interpret faith differently. Do not judge others who are different from you. Whilst Jesus encourages us to share our faith, the Bible also teaches us to love all God’s creatures, and that we should treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves
