HOMILY OF THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B
Acts 9:26-31, 1John 3:18-24, John 15:1-8.
THEME: HOW TO LIVE A MEANINGFUL LIFE.
To live a meaningful life is to plug ourselves to the right source. There are some people who cannot make it in life unless they disassociate themselves from the wrong people around them. It takes wisdom to enjoy lasting relationship with the right people.
Though the house of Israel is described as the vineyard of the Lord, a place in God is not to be measured by been an Israelite. Accepting Jesus brings about fruitfulness, because he is the true vine. When we glory in being members of the church, we must equally strive to have a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus. Unless we mirror our relationship with Jesus after the intimacy between him and his Father, we cannot have a place in him.
The Lord said,” I am the true vine, and my father is the vinedresser. Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”
Fruitlessness is wastefulness. Jesus invites us to intimacy. Let us give him his place in heart. Let us always seek a deep and intimate relationship with the Lord.
May our lives be meaningful, and may nothing separate us from the love of Christ. May no human association corrupt our eternal destiny. Amen.
