I Remember The Affections of Your Youth (Jeremiah 2:2)
God’s Word in Jeremiah chapter Two calls us to a deep sober reflection. To reflect on our relationship with Him as OUR FIRST LOVE. Do you still Love Him as you once did?
Indeed, many will recall how passionate they were in love with God as youths. And how faithfully they actually sought Him. How the zeal for His House burnt like fire in their veins. How pious they were with their devotions. How the Church and the things of the Spirit meant a lot to them. How they travelled far and near doing HIS chores.
But today, however, these are only memories of the past. They have become ‘old horses’ and ‘retired veterans at early age’. They have become lukewarm and tepid. Prayer and things of God no longer catch their interest. Their bibles are begging for some attentions. They have replaced such zeal with the pleasures of life.
It is to such that the Word speaks thus: I remember how faithful you were when you were young, how you loved me when we were first married; you followed me through the desert, through a land that had not been sown. Why is God recalling these memories? Because He wants us to return back to such exciting TIMES.
Jesus gave credence to the above when He spoke through the lips of John to the Church in Ephesus in Revelation 2:4 ” … you do not love me now as you did at first.” The question is, do I still love him now as I once did? Am I still ready to go through the rigours of this love relationship?
Dearly beloved, our ultimate Call as Children of God is to love Him above everything things else. But you will agree with me, that life’s pursuits sometimes, seem to hinder this love. But we can decide today to return to that initial LOVE. He is WAITING. Shalom!
