KNOWING THE SECRETS OF OUR OWN SEASON, Rev Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp

HOMILY, SATURDAY OF THE 25TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

 Ecc 11:9-12:12, Luke 9:43-45

We are called not to waste the precious moments of our life. Opportunity lost can never be regained. When we know what is required of our times and seasons, we will never missed any God-given opportunity.

In our first reading today, it is clearly stated, “Remember your creator in the days of your youths, before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh.” Making most of every opportunity with God in mind is a priority for those who want to live a fulfilled life. Every stage in our life comes with commensurate grace and leverage. It takes wisdom and focus to face the realities of our moments without being distracted by the world around us. While Jesus was talking about his ultimate destiny and his eminent suffering and death, his disciples could not understand him. He said to them,

Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men. But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about the saying.” Luke 9:43b-45.

Each one understands better his or her own life’s script.  However, since our life is hidden in God, let us ask him to open up our sight so that we may understand his ways; thereby fulfil his merciful designs for us.

May every good opportunity around us work for our ultimate good in Jesus name. Amen.
