KNOWING WHO TO LISTEN TO.

60

HOMILY OF SATURDAY OF THE OCTAVE OF EASTER

Acts 4:13-21, Mark 16:9-15

THEME: KNOWING WHO TO LISTEN TO.

Man will definitely own his life to the one who sustains his days. It is an ungrateful soul who treats his benefactor with disdain. A grateful person will always be loyal to who feeds him. Having encountered the Lord Jesus and heard him, the disciples built unshakable conviction in following him despite the obstacles.  That was why Peter could respond to Jesus by saying, “To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” John 6:68.

There is no one like Jesus.  No man can do what he did for us, he came to die for us and he did die.

When the elders and the scribes threatened Peter and John and told to stop preaching in the name of Jesus, their response was, “whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge; for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:19

Moreover, having encountered Jesus who saved her from the bondage to Satan, Mary Magdalene’s love for Jesus was immeasurable. She loved the master beyond the grave. She would have believed Jesus when he preached to them that he would rise from the dead. Her unshakable faith in the Jesus took him to the tomb, and she was given the privilege of being the first person to meet the resurrected Lord.

However, we have enjoyed the benevolence of God in one way or the other. Therefore, let us hold firmly unto him and do not throw words to the dust. He owns our allegiance. Man is secondary.

May all the wonders of God in our life, may his daily provisions draw us closer to him, that we may always obey him above all.
