HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THIRD WEEK OF LENT YEAR A,
BY REV FR EKESHIRI JUDE EMEKA CSSP.
(Jeremiah 7:23-28, Psalm 94:1-2,6-9, Luke 11:14-23).
Dear friends, Unity is strength, while disunity is downfall. Often we find ourselves in a relentless struggle between good and evil. Atimes, the evil seem to overtake the good, but it cannot. In the gospel of today, Jesus was accused of casting out demons through the power of Satan, whereas it was just a confusion by the Pharisees, not to acknowledge the god works of Jesus.
The Gospel illustrates this battle, revealing Jesus’ authority over darkness as He casts out a demon (Luke 11:14). This miraculous act not only amazed the people but also ignited conflict with the Pharisees. Jesus said with boldness that, ‘Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste’ (Luke 11:17).
This reminded us that, we cannot serve both God and evil. We must choose today, whom we want to serve. God is light and cannot be defeated by darkness. This reflection challenges us. The question is are we genuinely aligned with God, or are we ensnared by sin?
Note today that, true Christian life transcends mere good works; it flourishes through an intimate relationship with God. Let’s choose our side wisely, committed to the Kingdom of God alone and be strong in faith. Peace be with you.
