HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY OF THE 9TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Tobit 3:1-11,16-17, Mark 12:18-27
THEME: LOOKING BEYOND THE EARTHLY
Victory over the fear of death gives us a glimpse of eternity. Though too much attachment to the things of the earth comes with its pain, the pains caused by the discipline that accompanies detachment has eternal gain. When we conquer our fears and put our trust in God, we gain peace that defies earthly worries or preoccupations.
Jesus told the Sadducees, “For when they rise from the dead, men and women do not marry; no, they are like the angels in heaven” This was his response to the question they raised over seven brothers who successively married a woman but died childless. The woman eventually died too. The question arises: in the resurrection, whose wife will she be?
Having surrendered to his fate, faith in the life to come made Tobit to request that God should end his life that he may journey home. However, God restored his sight and wiped his tears.
May nothing on earth block our way to heaven. Amen.
