Homily Of Wednesday After Epiphany, 8th January, 2025
Ref: 1st John 4:7-10; Mk 6:34-44.
My dear brothers and sisters, as we continue to celebrate this Christmas and the new year in love, John reminds us in the first reading that everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.
The implication of this is that, many of us may claim to know God but do not love as we ought to. You don’t need to put a big write up on your forehead before the people around you will know that you truly know God. You don’t need to be the one at the front row in the Church before the people around you will know that you know God.
Your kind gestures towards your brother’s and sisters will automatically speak for you. And so, in this new year 2025 let us make love the essence. Jesus demonstrates this in the Gospel text by having compassion on the people and he fed them. They were filled and satisfied. Some of us cannot share even the abundance that we have with our neighbours. We keep hoarding as if we will go with them after this life.
Friends, love is the certificate! Love is the passbook. Love is the essence and God is love.
