HOMILY OF THURSDAY IN THE 17TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Exodus 40:16-21,34-38, Matthew 13:47-53
THEME: OPENING OUR GIFTS TO GOD’S LIGHT.
In today’s gospel, when Jesus realized that the disciples were able to understand his parable about the kingdom, he commended them for using their foreknowledge as a good ground of understanding the new life he brought.
The asked the disciples, “Have you understood all this?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ And he said to them, ‘Well then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom things both new and old.”
Jesus encourages us not to abandon our gifts and talents. Rather, he wants us to explore them in the light of his word, using them as a Christian should. No knowledge is a waste. It all depends on how we use it.
Let us bring all our treasures, gifts and talents and place them at the feet of Jesus that he may breathe on them and use them for his own greater glory and that they may help us in the journey toward our salvation and the salvation of others.
