HOMILY OF FRIDAY IN THE 21ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
1 Thessalonians 4:1-8, Matthew 25:1-13
THEME: OUR INNOCENCE NOT ENOUGH
We can be innocent but not wise. We are meant to be as gentle as the dove and as wise as the serpent. Knowledge without application is useless. If we cannot process our experiences well, we cannot learn from them.
In today’s gospel, Jesus gave us the parable of the ten virgins, waiting for the bridegroom. Five came with enough oil in their lamps, and the remaining five did not, and they missed the chance of seeing the bridegroom.
They were all virgins; the metaphor of purity or innocence, but five were foolish and five wise. While we work towards becoming experts in spiritual matters, may we also gain insight into the management of material things.
We pray that God will give us enough wisdom to manage our daily affairs. Amen.
