POSTERITY: A FRUIT OF SECOND THOUGHT, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

87

HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER.

Acts 5:34-42, John 6:1-15

THEME: POSTERITY: A FRUIT OF SECOND THOUGHT.

It’s good we give things time. A hasty judgement can bring shame later on when we know that we have made an irreversible error. Things are not always the way they look. If we give issues a second thought, we may soon realise that our initial views about them were only figments of our imagination. Hence, we should always suspend our judgement.

As the Sanhedrin put the apostles on the hot seat of judgement, one of them by the name Gamaliel, who spoke about those who came before them and how they ended, said,

What I suggest, therefore, is that you leave these men alone and let them go. If this enterprise, this movement of theirs, is of human origin it will break up of its own accord; but if it does in fact come from God you will not only be unable to destroy them, but you might find yourselves fighting against God.”

What we do is surely an indication of who we are at the end of the day. When the Lord Jesus fed the five thousand in today’s gospel account, “the people, seeing this sign that he had given, said, ‘This really is the prophet who is to come into the world.”

Keen attention and patient observation matter a lot when it comes to reaching a conclusion about people and what they do.

We pray that God helps us to put things in their right perspective. Amen.
