MONDAY OF THE TWENTIETH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR ( A)
R1:- Ezekiel 24:15-24
PS:- Deuternomy 32:18-19.20.21 (R.18b)
Accl:- Matthew 5:3
Gosp:- Matthew 19:16-22
We shall be judged not only by the evil which we avoid, but also by the good things which we fail to do.
While we say no to vices, let us remember to cultivate the virtues without which we cannot gain eternal life.
The young man who came to Jesus in our today’ gospel confessed that he had observed the negative laws of “thou shall not”. The Lord simply told him to go and sell what he possess and give to the poor, so as to have treasure in heaven.
Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. Attachment to material things cannot permit us to follow him closely. We must take the bold steps by emptying ourselves of all human entanglements. Unless we do this, we cannot really remember our service to others.
May God help us to follow him joyfully. May we possess a generous heart which enables us to empty ourselves in order to be at the service of the gospel of Christ.
Amen.
