HOMILY OF FRIDAY IN THE 14TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Genesis 46:1-7,28-30, Matthew 10:16-23
THEME: SHEEP AMONG WOLVES.
We cannot understand spiritual realties with carnal mind. The more the spread of unGodly values, the more the disdain for those who stand for the truth of the gospel. Though the world may be heading towards decay, God’s spirit will continue to be active in those who stand firmly for him.
The Lord Jesus said in today’s gospel, “Remember, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; so be cunning as serpents and yet as harmless as doves……..You will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the pagans. But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to speak or what to say; what you are to say will be given to you when the time comes; because it is not you who will be speaking; the Spirit of your Father will be speaking in you. “
It takes heavenly wisdom to stand earthly wisdom. The flesh cannot do the work of the spirit. To confront all the forces that militate against our witnessing, we need to allow God to take the lead all the time. This means we have a constant touch with him. If we do not obey God, we become wolves to ourselves. We need to put him first in all we do. Then, he continues to work in us to will and to do.
May God’s divine wisdom lead us through our daily challenges. Amen.
