HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY IN THE 22ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Colossians 1:1-8, Luke 4:38-44
THEME: THE BENEFIT OF KNOWING OUR LIFE PURPOSE
It is a matter of utmost importance that we know there are certain positive and delightful actions or activities that can divert our attention from our life’s purpose. It’s important that we recognize those feats so that we are not distracted by pursuits that may only bring us a good reputation, but ultimately cause us to overlook our life’s true objectives.
In today’s gospel, we learn about Jesus’ healing of the sick and casting out of demons. The people were so amazed by his miraculous power that they didn’t want him to depart from their midst. However, his response may be disappointing but that is the truth. The Lord said,
“I must proclaim the Good News of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, because that is what I was sent to do.”
Healing the sick and casting out demons are part of the mission of Christ, but they are secondary to the preaching of the gospel. All he did geared towards establishing the kingdom of God in people’s heart. There are many people who received miraculous healing or who are released from the shackles of demons, but do not follow the ways of the Lord. So, we must not forget the main mission of preaching the gospel.
May our lives and words serve to announce the kingdom of God. Amen.
