HOMILY OF MONDAY 11TH JANUARY, 2021
MONDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
R1:- Hebrew 1:1-6
PS:- 97:1 and 2b.6 and 7c.9
Accl:- Mark 1:15
Gospel:- Mark 1:14-20
We see in today’s gospel how Jesus called Simon and his brother Andrew. He also called James and John the son of Zebedee.
These were ordinary people who were preoccupied with fishing, the popular business of the time. Jesus did not make education his sole criterion. He did not pick people who think that they are already made. Rather, he chose those people who he wanted to make his disciples; those who would follow him and humbly learn from him.
More so, the Lord did not go to choose any of his disciples from the temple or the synagogues. He rather chose to pick them from the streets and the business centres.
It is not what we have or what we think we know that matter to Jesus, it is what he wants to make of us. All we need to do is to follow him. He chooses those whose hearts are pliable and are ready to learn. He sees through us and know those who are worthy of his call.
May we be made worthy of Christ special invitation. May he count us worthy of his call. Amen.
