THEME: THE COURAGE TO STAND AMIDST LIFE’S STORMS

Making a difference in the world where people prefer the easy ways requires a lot of maturity. The popular ways oftentimes are not the best ways. To swim against the current may seem unreasonable. Being able to weather the storm is a true mark of heroism. Nothing good comes so easy.

In today’s gospel, the Lord Jesus exalts us to endure in the face of our life tribulations and never cease to fix our gaze on him. The world may not endorse us, but if we do not compromise our gospel values for worldly fads, we shall surely gain the reward.

More so, in the first reading, Paul emphasized the need for our lives as followers of Christ to be different from our previous worldly ways.

Since you have been brought back to true life with Christ, you must look for the things that are in heaven, where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand. Let your thoughts be on heavenly things, not on the things that are on the earth, because you have died, and now the life you have is hidden with Christ in God.”

No one encounters Christ and remain the same. Our old friends may still entice us and lure us into the path we used to take, but if we have declared for Christ, we dare to be different.

May we fully take possession of the grace to stand amidst our life’s storms. Amen.
