47

HOMILY OF THURSDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

MEMORIAL OF ST TIMOTHY AND TITUS

2 Tim 1:1-8, Mk 4:21-25

THEME: THE HOME: A STARTING POINT FOR GREATNESS

It is often said that Charity begins at home.   Our family upbringing has a great impact on our growth in virtues.  Majority of great the men and women in our society today cannot complete their success stories without a clear reference to their homes. These include those who were brought up as orphans or those who have no tangible history of their parents.

It is good to know that in whatever we excel in life, we must have a point of reference or a motivator; someone who is seen as a model or mentor.

In his canonical letter to Timothy, Paul mentioned the influence of Lois, his grandmother, in his spiritual development. This spiritual indoctrination was later punctuated by the laying on of hands by Paul. Timothy was prepared from home. This gave him the leverage to join the apostolic ministry at his tender age.

Our family, the domestic church, has a role to play in our growth in the spiritual life. For those families that live together, much are learned.

However, where is the home, one may ask. A home is bigger than where one is born. A home is a place of welcome, care and hospitality. It is a place where we are accepted and are comfortable. Anyone can create a home for the other.

Therefore, dear ones, we can create a home for someone today. We can give someone a leap into a greater life. We can sow a seed into someone’s life; a seed capable of launching him or her into something bigger in life.

May God make us people of impact. May he use us to prepare his people for his greater works. Amen.
