HOMILY OF THURSDAY OF THE 5TH WEEK OF EASTER.
Acts 15:7-21, John 15:9-11
THEME: THE KINGDOM OF LOVE
The kingdom of God is not a system or a body of doctrines, it is rather a community of God’s love where everyone finds a home. While we must not advocate a religion of convenience, devoid of sacrifice or self-discipline, religious spirit can form a barrier to true spirituality.
In the first reading, Peter addressed the apostles, regarding the restrictions placed on the pagans who were newly converted to the faith,
“It would only provoke God’s anger now, surely, if you imposed on the disciples the very burden that neither we nor our ancestors were strong enough to support? Remember, we believe that we are saved in the same way as they are: through the grace of the Lord Jesus.”
Having enjoyed the love of God and seeing how generous he is, we can make it easy for those who enter the kingdom after us to enjoy the same love we have received.
“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Remain in my love.”
May we be generous in sharing the love of Christ. Amen.
