The Mountain of the Lord

By Rev Fr Felix O Yayi CSSP

5
Homily of Wednesday in the First Week of Advent, Year C.
Ref: Isa 25: 6-10, Matt 15: 29-37

Come Lord Jesus, the light is dying, the night keeps crying. Come Lord Jesus. As we await His coming, we are called to climb the mountain of hope, where His promises await us.

Dear friends in Christ, the Church has given approximately 4 weeks to prepare and make ourselves ready for the coming of the Lord.

This season is a season of hope. Hope for the hopeless! Isaiah in the first reading talks of the mountain the Lord of host has prepared for all peoples. The mountain the Lord has prepared for you and I. What happens on this mountain? On this mountain, there is a banquet of rich food. On this mountain a bag of rice is not about 100,000 plus. On this mountain, a liter of fuel is not about 1,000 plus. On this mountain there is no kidnapping and insecurity, there is freedom! On this mountain the Lord will wipe away the tears from every cheek. On this mountain, the Lord will your shame and my shame.

But who shall climb this mountain? The Psalmist says, it is a man of clean hands and pure heart, one desires not worthless things, and that is why the Church has given us this season of advent to prepare ourselves so that we can enjoy the benefits of this mountain.

Let us pray:
Prepare our hearts, we pray, O Lord our God, by your divine power, so that at the coming of Christ your Son we may be found worthy of the banquet of eternal life and merit to receive heavenly nourishments from his hands.

Amen. Peace be with you!
