Dear friends, Paul and Silas could have felt betrayed by the God they preached after being locked up in the prison. However, the prison is not the final bustop. One of the things the Holy Spirit would help us do is to pray.

To help to raise our minds and heart to God. This prayer is so potent that it breaks captivity and liberates. Paul and Silas are good examples of this. Through prayers and hymns, the prison doors were broken. This is the reason why Jesus must depart physically from his disciples so that the Holy Spirit can come, for unless he goes, the Holy Spirit would not come. Jesus knew the hearts of the disciples were troubled because he said he was leaving. However, Jesus knows the better. He knows the one who is coming is the Counsellor.

Dear friends, sometimes, God allows us to experience what lookalike captivity so that His name can be revealed through us. From it, we learn to grow our faith. We get convinced the more that God gives answers to our prayer. Just like the prison guard who asked Paul and Silas what they must do to be saved, people will see God’s actions in our lives and would want to know this God. Let us not be quick to give up in difficult situations. Let us not be discouraged that God doesn’t care we are persecuted even while working for him.

Let us pray for the grace to yield to the Holy Spirit even in the midst of difficulties.

The Lord be with you.
