HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER
Acts 18:9-18, John 16:20-23
THEME: UNDERSTANDING GOD’S PROTECTION
When we are at one with God, he paves our way. When he assures us of his continuous presence, we must not fidget. All we need is to keep doing his bidding.
In today’s first reading, the Lord assured Paul of his intervention, telling him not to bother about possible attack at Corinth.
“Do not be afraid to speak out, nor allow yourself to be silenced: I am with you. I have so many people on my side in this city that no one will even attempt to hurt you.”
From the above line of assurance, one would expect that Paul should be walking freely in the street of Corinth without anyone laying hands on him. They did attack him and brought him before Gallio.
Psalm 34:19 explains it all that, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.”
God is with us amid our troubles. He has the way out. Our childish fears must give way to childlike trust. Though, God may write straight with crooked line, lets pray for the grace to understand his ways in the divinely inspired dictionary of faith, hope and love.
May we always be conscious of his presence, that no situation will overwhelm us. Amen.
