HOMILY OF SUNDAY IN THE 18TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
The Transfiguration of the Lord – Feast
Daniel 7:9-10,13-14, 2 Peter 1:16-19, Matthew 17:1-9
THEME: VISION OF GOD’S GLORY
Like Peter, James and John, we are all called to a quiet time with Jesus. To enjoy the vision of his glory, we must seek some moments with him alone.
However, every special encounter with Jesus is meant for a purpose. The Lord led the three brothers to the mountain, where they remained in His presence until they encountered the extraordinary and supernatural.
More so, it is not enough to parrot our pocket of visions when we have not fully understood what they meant for us. “As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, ‘Tell no one about the vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”
Moreover, every encounter we have with the Lord has a significance for ourselves and the world at large. The disciples would prefer to stay with Jesus on the mountain, “Lord,’ he said ‘it is wonderful for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah” To this request of Peter came the voice which says, “This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him”
Let’s take time to be with Jesus, let us give him keen attention and understand his plans for us. Let us be patient till he brings his words to concrete fulfillment in our lives. May our ears be open to the Lord and may we never miss the fulfillment of his will in our lives. Amen.
