WALKING ON THE PATH OF LIGHT.

64

HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER YEAR B

Acts of the Apostles 5; 17-26, John 3:16-21

THEME: WALKING ON THE PATH OF LIGHT.

Truth does not hide. Though lie can move fast, it cannot hide either. Man can only try to cover the truth and hide their lies. However, every effort to hide the truth will surely produce lies. At times, we try to hide the truth by painting it in bad light. This cannot but be a futile effort. False life can be frustrating, because it takes extra energy to maintain whatever is not real.

To live by the truth is to live in light. Walking on the path of light entails living a sincere and honest life. It means, living a life of witnessing to the gospel of Christ.

Everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to the light lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God.”

However, oftentimes, we love to trumpet our good deeds and hide our bad ways. Though we love showcasing our good deeds, our evil deeds will always look at us in the face.

Ironically, our news outfits are expert in showcasing more of  bad news than the good ones. These days, vices are celebrated more than virtues. In music parlance, people tend towards the secular than the gospel. The chain continues.

Nevertheless, the gospel of God’s grace must be preached. No matter the threat or how it is received, we are called to speak the truth; we are invited to make the ways of God known in the midst of his people. Nothing should stop us from witnessing to the gospel.

Interestingly, in our today’s first reading, we read that, “in those days: the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is the arty of the Sadducees, and filled with jealousy they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out and said, ‘go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.

We cannot imprison the truth. Those who are on the path of light must always stand firm irrespective of the challenges.

In our struggles against the power and deeds of darkness, may the light of God shine upon us. May his heavenly angels never depart from us, and may we be saved from the hands of those who seek to kill our motivation.
