WHEN GOD REMEMBERS OUR NEIGHBOURS, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua, CSSp

49

HOMILY OF TUESDAY FO THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Memorial of St John Bosco, Priest.

Heb 12:1-4, Mark 5:21-43

THEME:  WHEN GOD REMEMBERS OUR NEIGHBOURS

How to take advantage of every opportunity.

“If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.”

Having sought many solutions and failed, one would wonder why the woman with the issue of blood would believe that touching Jesus’ cloak could heal her.

The manner her faith was expressed raised some fundamental questions. Had she ever seen Jesus perform miracles? Did she know Jesus could heal her? She took a leap of faith to receive what she earnestly desired.

Jesus will surely make a way when the time to rest comes irrespective of the duration of suffering. Jesus’s trip wasn’t for her sake ab initio. He was headed for Jairus home, to heal his daughter but this woman was only fortunate to have met Jesus on the way.

Hence, when God is at the threshold of blessing someone, there might be some other people who are bound to benefit from that same venture as well. We should desist from envying those who receive special favours from God. That may be an indication God is about to do greater things in our lives. That may also be a sign that God is close at hand. Some people could be stuck in a somewhat state of perpetual misery, all just because they never desire the best for those around them. We shouldn’t be obstacles to other people’s blessings.

Let us be positive minded and wish others well. Their breakthroughs may be an open door to our liberation. When God remembers our neighbour, we may be beneficiaries as well.

This is a special call to pray for others. We are the first beneficiaries of the prayers we say for others.

May God remember us anytime he comes to visit his people.
