HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY OF THE 7TH WEEK OF EASTER
Acts 20:28-38, John 17:11-19
THEME: WHY WE MUST BE DIFFERENT
We cannot mingle with the world if we must make substantial impact in it, even though we live in the world. Going with the trend of what is in vogue doesn’t amount to being up to date. However, while it is expedient to be abreast of new trends, as a people set apart, we must dare to be different.
The Lord said in the gospel,
“Consecrate them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world, and for their sake I consecrate myself so that they too may be consecrated in truth.”
Consecration entails being set apart for a special mission. God said to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5.
We have been consecrated by God’s word. We renew our consecration by daily submission to God’s will in our lives.
As we prepare for the feast of Pentecost, may God’s anointing upon us be renewed that we may bear effective witness to his truth in the world. Amen.
