The power of God to save is ever sure. His compassion transcends every law that puts us in bondage. In and out of season, Jesus was ever ready to save those who are in the bondage of Satan.
The woman in today’s gospel is a typical of a suffering humanity. She has suffering from this infirmities for eighteen years, but the rulers of the synagogue were not happy when Jesus healed her on the Sabbath.
It is evil getting use to seeing others suffering. Eighteen years was a whole lot. At times, some devil advocates hide themselves under the cover of due process to keep people in perpetual bondage. As leaders, they are the ones to pass whatever bills that define the fate of citizenry. It is whatever they pass into law or their interpretation of the law that matters to them.
They sit in the upper chamber where they devilishly interprets the notion which asserts that, “the poor will always be among you” And they make themselves the measure of what is good and determine what makes an act bad. Any good act that may threaten their relevance is seen in a bad light. And they do all within their reach to silence the voice of the oppressed, especially the moment they are getting to recognise their right to life.
To this members of the religious cabal, the Lord Jesus said,
” _You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, who Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”_
It is our duty to loose those who are suffering from any form of oppression, no matter the strength of the unjust structure that keep them in perpetual bondage.
May the Lord enroll us into the class of problem solvers. May he use us to liberate those who are suffering from any form of yoke or calamity. Amen.
