GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS

HOMILY, THURSDAY, OF THE 27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Gal 3:1-5, Luke 11:5-13

As long as we recognize God as a Father, he listens to all our requests. The wisdom with which he answers them is what we may not understand.

The Lord said in today’s gospel, “ask, it will be given to you. Seek, and you will fine; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Oftentimes, we do not see the fruits of our prayers because we have answered them by ourselves. We often disrupt the process of the realization of what we pray for by acts that betray our impatience, simply because of our lack of understanding.

It is only God who can send us on an errand and still take it upon himself to do what he has sent us to do, for he works in us to will and to do. When we think that he is too slow to hear us or that he is too slow to answer, we do things our own ways.

The Lord assures us today, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

The Holy Spirit remains the best of all gifts. By it, we understand the Lord’s way and we discern his purposes so as to freely walk by faith.

May the spirit of Christ dwell in us in all its fullness that we may always be aware of the fatherhood of God who supplies answers to all our questions. Amen.
